Susan B. Smith
Susan joined Temple in 1993 and currently serves as Deputy University Counsel.
Susan’s practice primarily flows from the Provost’s portfolio, with emphasis on faculty affairs, faculty labor relations, policy development and research misconduct. Susan also has responsibility for regulatory compliance, federal investigations and enforcement, environmental health and radiation safety, student privacy and litigation management.
Susan has given numerous presentations and training sessions at Temple and professional conferences on the topics of FERPA, faculty employment and termination from employment, environmental regulations, federal enforcement actions, attorney-client privilege, conflicts of interest in sponsored research and general legal issues in higher education. Susan also has edited and/or authored publications in a variety of areas related to higher education practice.
Prior to joining Temple, Susan worked in a white collar criminal practice. A graduate of Syracuse University, Susan received her law degree from George Washington University in 1987.
